I made a Prezi about some of the famous U.S. Presidents and talked about their achievements! Check it out here. :)
Hi, I’m Ashley and I’m a freshman majoring in elementary education. I hope to graduate with my masters in 4 more years and start teaching 2nd graders! I think technology is important in my career because it helps communicate, teach, and demonstrate skills needed for the real world. I frequently use Instagram and twitter and I usually like to watch Netflix on the internet. I'm interested to start blogging frequently and learn all about it!

I will use data collecting/surveys when I'm a teacher to record the progress of my little students. For myself, I want to be a teacher who teaches either 2nd or 3rd grade. During those grade levels, students grades typically aren't recorded, therefore it is hard to see a students progress throughout the year. I would use excel to record each students success on quizzes or activities, so by the end of the year I can see which student improved their learning. I think this is important to write down, in case a parent asks how their kid is doing on school work, or wants to know what they can improve on. It'll also make me recognize what the class is struggling the most with overall, where I can then improve or reteach information that may have been confused.
The things I found most interesting when reading other student's blogs were when they posted screenshots of the activities we had to do. Since the projects are usually not shared, I enjoy looking at the images from their work they created. I also was interested in other classmates opinions on certain educational technologies or applications. By reading what other students thought about these technologies, it gave me ideas on how that software could be useful in the classroom. Gathering different ideas from other students was most interesting, because I got to read how they thought educational tools could be used most efficiently as a teacher.
One technology skill I would like to learn how to use perfectly, is the Promethean board. During our trip to the FSU sandbox, I had the chance to play around with the board by drawing on the screen and making shapes. However, I never learned all the tools and applications that the board offered and I think this technological piece is a great tool for the classroom. The board has an interactive system where teachers can deliver lessons and assessments in a simpler way. Like a white board, you can draw on the screen but with the Promethean board, you can save what you wrote for future references. I want to achieve this goal by going back to the sandbox on my own, and ask the professionals there how to use the board to all its advances.

The "Flipped Classroom" is an idea that the typical lecture and homework assignments are reversed in the classroom. This means, at home students watch video lectures and write down notes or information that is important during the videos. But in the classroom, students time is devoted to assignments, discussions, and projects based off the material learned. Students can learn the curriculum at their own pace and rewatch any information they didn't understand the first time. It's also more effective for students to communicate and discuss what they've learned at home in the classroom so they can express their ideas and share questions. It helps when students are doing activities in the classroom, and the teachers can be there to help if needed.
Open education is all about making education experiences available to a wide audience. This makes everyone have access to educational experiences while working to eliminate barriers such as money. It opens experience to people who may have not been accessible to educational experiences. Open content is the ability that others can copy and change work from previous creative resources. Open source are materials that can be changed because the creators have given permission for individuals to have their material. As long as they meet the criteria, people can use their information to create their own material. I used this cite here to learn about "open" terms.

I've worked with PowerPoint many times before but I did learn some things through the PowerPoint assignments. I learned how to use the "action" buttons to create an animation on the slide. I also learned under "slide show" and "set up slide show" if you click, "browsed at kiosk" this takes away the ability to click to advance to the next slide. I also have never hyperlinked to the next or previous slide which I found very useful in my assignments. I loved creating both Powerpoint assignments because I feel like I've learned a lot about the tool and I will be using these techniques in the classroom as a teacher. I think for next time, I could improve on making the voice over and to include details about the slides.

During the field trip to the student service lab, I noticed the many technologies that are helpful for students with disabilities. One of the devices I found to be useful for schools was the SmartPen. This device allowed you to record your teachers lectures while you write down notes at the same time. Later, you are able to hit play on the pen and listen to your teachers voice and lectures in case you missed what he/she said. This is important in schools for students who have certain disabilities that can't concentrate, drift off easily during lectures, have a hard time comprehending what the teacher said, etc. I also think students who need extra help in understanding text while reading, can use the text to speech application where the computer reads the text in an easier way to understand. This is helpful for slower readers and learners to grasp information faster.
Powerpoint is a useful tool and greatly beneficial for learning each level of Bloom's Taxonomy. It can help students create and design their own powerpoint to help study, learn, and develop their own work. It can also help students evaluate their information in a organized way, by using text boxes, bulleted lists, or big fonts. Next, a student can analyze their work from powerpoint to draw connections between curriculum, compare and contrast ideas, and test themselves on information they may struggle with by making compare/contrast tables and adding images to remember. Applying information from powerpoint helps student learn easily as they interpret information in ways they will understand best such as using graphics. Students can understand and retain information if they use bullet points with summarized information. It is quicker and easier to learn remember better if students recorded their powerpoint so they could go back and constantly listen to the information. This will be easier to memorize and repeat their powerpoint which will help their brain while they constantly read their studies.
As a teacher, I think it's very important to stay involved in advancing technology. It is important to know and learn about future technology and how to use it for students in a classroom. The website, here updates all the latest technologies with pictures and a full description once you click on it. It helps you with navigate through advanced technologies and how to use them efficiently.

Adaptive technologies helps students with learning disabilities in the classroom. Students with visible disabilities such as not being able to see the screen, hear the computer, or type on the keyboard can use input and output devices. Instead of reading a screen, they might use text to speech software that can speak to them or have a magnified screen. I personally haven't met anyone whose used these kind of technologies. A challenge I may face using these adaptive technologies in the classrooms, is my ability to use it. Since I have not seen or tried adaptive technologies, I would have to learn about the softwares to ensure any students of mine that might need to use them.
Some skills I acquired while working on the web page design assignment was creating a web site in general, since I have not really done that. I also learned how to create a page design set up to make my website more appealing. I loved creating a website since this is something I would like to do when I'm a teacher. It was easy to learn and understand the tools on Wix.com. For next time, I would like to add more pages and more information for my 'classroom' since that would be most helpful for future students and parents. In my future teaching career, creating a class page would be so helpful for students and parents to catch up on any material, learn about what's going on each day, different announcements, and a good reference for the school year. Click here to view my class page!
From working with Diigo, I've learned that multiple people can join a group and post links, information, and other material all at the same time. I found the highlighting tool on Diigo very helpful for students. It's a great way for students to comment or question certain information and share their thoughts for everybody to look at. This social networking software is a great application for future learning and connecting with others.

ILP "Participation" - FSU Technology Sandbox
When I attended the FSU Technology Sandbox, I learned about a lot of technology applications used in classrooms. Our instructor went through each technology tool and explained its use, how to work it, and how it's used in the classrooms. After we heard a description of the tools, we all had the chance to try them out. I first went to the Promethean board and played around with it's applications. It was easy to figure out and understand and also had a lot of neat tools to use in the classroom. I've had many teachers from my high-school use a Promethean board and I was always interested in learning about its features. There was an Ipad tool called Osmo that connected to your Ipad and was an easy app to learn and was a great way to practice learning. You would choose a certain activity to play involving letters, and with a motion sensor and camera set up on the Ipad, it would detect the letter you selected.
I then went to try out the 3-D pen. The pen has a electrical powered heater that becomes hot enough to melt the plastic ink inside. You can then draw 3-D images using this pen in different ways. This is an important tool for younger kids in school so they can learn about shapes and the different angles they have. It's a great way for students to learn visually how something is created and the way it's formed.
I then tried out the Smart Board. This was very similar to the Promethean Board, however, the Smart Board was a tiny bit older and lagged a little more than the Promethean Board did. There were different features on this board like the 3-D images. You could select images off clipart and rotate it to see every angle. This is a great tool for schools when teaching certain ideas you can view this object from various degrees to learn about its whole structure.
Overall, I had an awesome experience at the FSU Sandbox! The instructors were very nice and helpful throughout explaining and showing all the tools they had to offer. I would definitely come back again to learn in more detail what everything is about! And I also can see myself using each of the applications I tried out during this experience in my own classroom.

As I searched through different elementary schools, Antioch Elementary School (K-5) is one I found easiest to navigate. This website has four main tabs of "Parents and Students," "Administration," About Our School," and "Calendar." I can see on the first page of the website, announcements and upcoming events. Tabs on the top and side are where information about the school is located. On the side tab there are quick links to different websites regarding different information about their school. Teachers class pages are located on the side tab and there are about 10 teachers with their grade level and specific information regarding their class rules, outline, and schedule. Parents and students can easily access information regarding the school without any log-in requirement. Click here for the school's website.
I envision myself using technology in my future classroom to teach young children everyday. I think it's important to be updated on the latest technology and use it each day to provide learning. I want to use an application such as a Promethean board to write lectures and use Ipads from the class to do learning activities and practice on. I also want to make sure each student in my classroom has access to technology because some may not have that ability at home. All technology based learning and practice will be used in the classroom and handouts/homework on paper for those who don't have access to computers at home. Using technology tools to plan is a great way to stay organized and staying digital is a great way to stay updated and easily accessible.
When we visited the Technology Sandbox, I found the Promethean board to be very useful for classrooms. I've had my old high-school teachers use this board for everyday teaching and learning. I think it's perfect for the classroom to teach and have students interact with learning as well. Students can go up to the board and answer questions, which would typically make little kids excited to be able to engage with technology. It's quick and you can either draw/teach on the board or open a website for practice. Unlike a white board, you can create lectures before hand and save it on the board and can have them ready for future class. It has many other applications that I think are important for teaching effectively.

Web 2.0 tools are no longer optional element according to the ELA standards. However, to support teacher development and professionalism, I think the "video tools" is a technology I believe all teachers should use. Such as "Teachertube", there are so many educational videos online that is helpful towards learning. In high-school my psychology teacher often put on a channel on Teachertube called "Crash Course" and these videos range from almost any subject with multiple creative and educational information. Another tool I would urge teachers and students to use is the "presentation tool" where you can upload, create and present anything from projects or learning content in a creative way such as "Prezi." It's another form of Powerpoint but there are creative tools to make a presentation pop. One tool I don't see too helpful is the "mobile tool." Although it would be cool for students to be blogging, at a young age especially, I don't think teachers should focus on students using their cell phones in the classroom.
When I'm teaching a web 2.0 tool I would probably use is Edmodo. It is almost similar to twitter except it is designed for teachers and students to interact with each other for school use only. Teachers create a classroom section and students join that class with a group code. From their phone or computer, you can access this app and reach out to your teacher from there and teachers can upload future assignments, homework, study guides, or reminders. Parents can also join the class with a group code to follow along with their students and what they are learning. I used this tool in high-school and I think it's great for interacting with students in an educational way. (https://www.edmodo.com/).
In chapter 12, the biggest technological advancement for education I believe is cloud computing. It is a system where you can access data, programs, and information from all over the internet instead of just a computer hard drive. You can also store data and information in the cloud and easily reach it whenever you need. I think this is most important for teachers and students especially to access data other than from the internet. You can share your information with your students in a fast accessible way. I think a great way to share information with your students is Powerpoint presentations that you've used from previous classes or lectures. This allows students to access these notes and slides where they can study from it or download it if they were missing from class.

So, my course experience with Twitter has been great! I've interacted with most of my classmates as they reply and like my tweets. I also like to take a look at everybody's page to see what's going on. I think it's an important and a fun way to express yourself and get to know your classmates. It's easier to communicate on twitter with Taehyeong and everyone in the class. I think its beneficial to reflect on what we've learned in the classroom and perhaps use it on the app. In my future career, I think twitter can be helpful to interact with my students and keep them updated on our activities. It can also teach them about the consequences of the internet and how to use it safely.
Digital divide affects students' success in schools because these days, many teachers and school curriculum require computer technology access to do assignments, lectures, homework, etc. Some students that can't afford or don't have access to computers struggle with the extra learning and practice that is needed for success. Things that cause digital divide could be economic issues with families having lower income that cannot afford computer access in their homes. Also depending on the country, some may not even be able to be available to internet. When I'm a teacher I will consider these problems some kids in my classroom may face, and understand that some students don't have computers at home. I will try my best to accommodate with these students and do most of my teaching in the classroom, and if technology is required, use what the school gives me and have the students use that. I would focus on more hard copy homework and assignments rather than ones on the computer.
The student software I expect to use the most is academic software. This is because it includes softwares such as Google docs, powerpoint, and Microsoft office. When I am teaching 2nd or 3rd grade I think these specific softwares will be an active way to learn and demonstrate technology skills at a young age. Using Google docs with features such as creating concept-maps or mind-maps will help students understand ways to compare and contrast different areas of geography learning about animals. Using powerpoint could help young students to make presentations on vocabulary terms they've learned throughout the week and use that software to study and look over. I also think the "Drill-and-Practice" software is a good technique for young students to practice the correctness of a response and questions. This is a good application for a subject such as math.

The ELA standard I feel most prepared to teach is SL.2, "Integrate and Evaluate." For K-2 students are required to recognize key details in text read aloud or presented through media. I know how important it is to have students read passages out loud to understand their knowledge, mistakes, or comprehension. As I observed a second grade classroom last semester, the teacher had her students read aloud to gain better reading skills for interpreting and analyzing visually the text. The standard that I need more learning on is W/WHST.8, "Use Multiple Sources." I need to learn how to paraphrase and provide a list of sources correctly regarding information about the credibility, while avoiding plagiarism effectively. I learned some techniques in high school about crediting my sources but sometimes it will still be incorrect.
Since I want to teach at an elementary 2nd or 3rd grade level, the blog application is what I would like to use with my students. I want to teach them at a young age how to post things on the internet, while staying safe at the same time. Lots of kids grow up not knowing the dangers of posting certain material for everyone to see. I want my students on their blog weekly to discuss what they've learned for the week and what their favorite part was etc. I think this is a great way to teach students about technology in a fun way and express themselves at a young age, while staying safe. Digital citizen concept is an important guideline to follow while beginning to use technology at a young age. I want to make sure to teach my students how to browse the internet safely and explain to them what you put on there stays forever. Since the students I wish to teach are young, I don't think teaching them about correctly citing their sources in depth is appropriate, however I think briefly explaining to them not to use other people's work and the consequences is important!

From working on the Newsletter Design assignment, I learned how to create a two-column design layout and I also learned more about how to move and adjust clipart from google and place them appropriately and the use of hyperlinks. I really enjoyed making this newsletter because I got to show my creativity and pretend to be a teacher by creating a colorful handout. For next time, I need to improve on how to correctly hyperlink my email and mastering the two column layout. From this assignment, I will take these skills I acquired and use them for future classroom assignments, handouts, or projects. Assignments like these make me excited to be in a classroom and the skills to be creative.

As a student, I've used MS word countless number of times! Every assignment, project, or essay I am usually using Microsoft word. I learned to use MS word in middle school and started actively using it in high-school when I had assignments to do from there. When I took a intro to technology course in ninth grade, I learned all the gadgets word had and all throughout high-school, it was my main typing application for essays or assignments. For the teachers I've had, almost all have used MS word to create handouts, plan, or have downloads we are required to read. Many of my teachers use word to write down their syllabus or main instructions for the course too.
My experience with copy right and fair use in class was most demonstrated when I started college. In high school I wasn't really taught what photos, documents, or other resources I was using was copyrighted and now in college it's a pretty big deal. I only primarily learned how to cite my sources for certain essays or research papers. Explained mostly in my english courses, my professor would have a list of guidelines we had to follow to ensure we weren't violating copyright. Teaching students early on the fair use guidelines will be the best way to practice what material you can use such as books/novels, newspapers, or magazines, protects any work you may publish.
As I read chapter 11, cyber-bullying stood out as the biggest social implementation issue. As technology is spreading vastly through young children, they are constantly on social media and using text messages to talk to one another. It happens so frequently where one might post about somebody else making them feel down or attacked. Also, as technology use in the classrooms is growing, I think it is so important for the teachers to follow what they have their students do online and report any attack they see right away. Although an ethical issue from chapter 11 was freedom of speech, I think it is important to make sure whatever a student is writing or saying, isn't harmful to another student. Every student should have the ability to say what they please as long as it is relevant to the classroom or topic. Legally, a solution for violating copyright would be to teach students the guidelines and have them practice what is right from what is wrong, how to give the correct credit to the sources they have used. I would also show examples of how to credit a source and how to violate copyright.

Technology in classrooms is a tool used almost all around the U.S and is vastly growing and improving daily. Teachers are influenced to use technology in the classrooms for multiple reasons. Communication in the classroom and throughout the schools administration is important for a teachers' career. Keeping up with the latest technology makes it easier for a teacher to communicate efficiently to his or her students. There are certain standards teachers are supposed to follow in the digital world and teaching technology is apart of most curriculum and it makes it better when the teacher is following along with the advances. Teaching students with technology allows students to be challenged intellectually and creates an effective way to create student growth in multiple areas. Using smart boards or power-point presentations to teach students keeps them the digital natives they are. Because technology is advancing everyday, it is important for students to learn about these advances because when they are grown up and entering the real world they will be expected to use these technologies in their every day careers.
The ISTE standards for students are a list of skills expected for a student to learn and understand with technology. I reflect the most on the "Digital Citizen" standard because it explains that students are familiar with the digital world in all the ways that are protected and ethical. When using certain online websites, I ensure that the photos, comments, or language I use is appropriate because I understand that what goes onto the internet never leaves. I make sure to maintain my personal data in a way that is safe and only I can access my own information. I was always taught to never go on risky websites and to frequently erase my computers history in case of any not seen viruses. The skill that isn't in my understanding is the "Computational Thinker." It uses algorithmic thinking to solve abstract models and data analysis. Students formulate different technological methods and I haven't fully learned how to use these skills but I'm interested to study the steps.
To be a digital native you would have to be born during the time of digital technology and is fully aware of computers and its abilities. I agree with this term for today's youth because as time goes on, technology advances. When I was young half of the technology was not fully advance, therefore I learned as it progressed. Today's youth is first introduced to its latest technology which is as advanced as it gets. I've seen differences between the way teachers (digital immigrants) and students use technology. I believe that since professors were grown up almost never using technology, they have not learned the full content of it. When us students grew up, technology was getting started and that is what we were introduced to and obsessed over. I don't think it impacted my learning experience because the teachers knew what I knew to teach me the material. I think that as technology advances I will be caught up and count on using it with my future students to keep them the digital natives they will be.

My prior experiences to technology have been a intro to technology class my freshman year of High-School, which was required. We learned how to use multiple programs on a dell computer, including excel. I was taught how to use power point and made many projects throughout the year with that program. I use technology every day from my mac computer to my cellphone. I'm pretty good at figuring out new technologies but not all of its programs.
I am hoping to learn about excel and different gadgets on the computer that I have no discovered on my own. I want to become more clear on how to use shortcuts on computer programs and become comfortable using them. I also have never used a blog before, so I want to know all the features of a blog and how to use one more frequently.
What I have learned in the questionnaire results was that for two of the categories I am balanced on two different dimensions of that scale. For the other half of the results I am on one side of the dimension of teaching styles. I prefer a teacher to show and explain steps on how to solve a problem. I am more of a visual learner so I can repeat the steps given and practice frequently. I enjoy learning about facts and realistic ideas rather than theories.
